K-12 FOODSERVICE

High stakes. Massive scale.

Breaking into K-12 takes bidding smarts, pricing precision, and pull with district leaders. Once you’re in, the scale can be enormous — and we know the formula.

Get through the system. And onto trays.

K–12 is complex by design. Approval sits behind layers of bureaucracy and tight regulations.

CORE helps you cut through red tape, pass student and staff testing, and earn final sign-off from directors and dietitians. Just another day for CORE’s K-12 team.

Win more bids.

Bidding is hard work. One misstep can end the process before it begins. We manage it from start to finish.

  • Present products to district leaders
  • Coordinate student and staff testing
  • Align distributor pricing to required documentation
  • Review and clear manufacturer materials for direct bids

Move orders without chaos.

K–12 commodities leave no room for surprises. CORE removes the guesswork, managing the details that protect supply, pricing, and program continuity.

  • Monitor monthly par levels across national K‑12 clients
  • Manage usage to avoid shortages or excess
  • Execute direct orders with speed and accuracy
  • Support internal and field teams as a seamless extension

Details decide.

District approval comes down to details. Portions. Pack size. Pricing targets. Anything too costly or packaged incorrectly is an automatic no. We help you earn the yes.

Compliance is the price of entry.

Buy American, check. Clean ingredients, check. Child nutrition-approved, check. We help brands meet compliance benchmarks every day of the week.

Volume is the test.

K–12 means being ready to deliver massive, consistent volume without missing a beat. CORE’s been passing that test for decades.

Questions?

Curious how to conquer the complexities of K-12 foodservice?

Is your K-12 team dedicated, and how large is it?

Yes. K-12 is supported by a dedicated team. Nearly 50 K-12-focused reps are embedded across our divisions, led by five regional K-12 directors.

The K-12 sales team is backed by a specialized K-12 bid group and commodity analysts who manage bids, pricing, and compliance. We also maintain partnerships with the American Commodity Distribution Association (ACDA) and the School Nutrition Association (SNA) to stay current on USDA updates and nutrition requirements.

What types of products do you represent in K-12?

CORE represents a wide range of food and beverage products designed to meet school nutrition standards, including reduced-sodium, allergen-free, gluten-free, whole-grain, plant-based, and reduced-fat options.

We help manufacturers align product specs with real menu needs so items meet guidelines and perform in high-volume school kitchens.

Are CN labels, PFS statements, and Buy American statements required to serve products in K-12 schools? Can CORE help me obtain these certifications?

CORE helps manufacturers prepare the documentation needed to meet these requirements and avoid delays during the bid process.

Child Nutrition (CN) labels and Product Formulation Statements (PFS) are not always required, but they are strongly recommended. They verify how processed products contribute to required meal patterns and nutrition standards. A PFS is often used when a CN label is not available.

Buy American compliance is required for most food purchased with federal funds. In most cases, at least 51% of the final processed product must come from agricultural commodities produced in the United States.

Why must product pricing remain the same for a full year? Can CORE help me with pricing strategy?

School districts lock pricing for the full contract year to protect budgets and ensure stability. Pricing must account for commodities, distributor costs, and potential market changes before the bid is submitted.

CORE helps manufacturers build pricing that holds, reducing the risk of margin issues, supply problems, or lost contracts.
